The trailer for ‘Highest 2 Lowest’, the much-awaited movie starring Denzel Washington and rapper A$AP Rocky, has finally been released.
The film, a crime thriller with a modern twist, brings together two creative giants, Apple and A24, to deliver a bold new take on a classic story.

Directed by Spike Lee, this project reunites him with Washington after nearly two decades. Their last film together, ‘Inside Man’, came out in 2006. Now, they return with a fresh interpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 classic ‘High and Low’.

That film was originally drew inspiration from the novel ‘King’s Ransom’ by Ed McBain.

The original story focused on a businessman caught in a kidnapping scheme gone wrong. In ‘Highest 2 Lowest’, the setting shifts to modern-day New York City. Washington plays a powerful music mogul whose life takes a dark turn when he finds himself caught in a similar ransom situation.
Alongside Washington and Rocky, the film also stars Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, Dean Winters, John Douglas Thompson, and rapper Ice Spice.
‘Highest 2 Lowest’ made its debut at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it was shown out of competition. The event marked a special moment for Spike Lee. It was the sixth time he premiered a film at Cannes and happened exactly 36 years after his first appearance with ‘Do the Right Thing’.
The movie is written by Alan Fox and Spike Lee, and produced by Apple, A24, Escape Artists, and Mandalay Pictures. It blends classic cinema with a fresh, urban vibe, creating a story that feels both timeless and urgent.
Fans don’t have to wait long as ‘Highest 2 Lowest’ will release in theatres on August 15. And, it will start streaming on Apple TV+ from September 5.
